{"id":825,"date":"2011-10-19T22:01:48","date_gmt":"2011-10-20T04:01:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.emidfamilies.org\/?p=825"},"modified":"2011-10-19T22:01:48","modified_gmt":"2011-10-20T04:01:48","slug":"star-tribune-board-opts-to-keep-integration-schools-open-around-the-metro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.clst.org\/emidfamilies\/archives\/825","title":{"rendered":"Star Tribune: Board opts to keep integration schools open around the metro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Star Tribune published a story by Daarel Burnette that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/local\/east\/132208523.html\">described tonight&#8217;s board meeting<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Wednesday&#8217;s vote, taken unexpectedly before parents were allowed to speak, allows the two schools to stay open indefinitely, thanks to a compromise plan offered by several superintendents, who proposed the board keep the schools open but reduce the districts&#8217; contributions by up to 43 percent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>With the cut in funding the board will have to cut several programs over the next several months, board members said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need to realize things aren&#8217;t going to look the same next year,&#8221; said board member Lori Swanson.<\/p>\n<p>That didn&#8217;t dissuade parents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The energy you see here tonight is not going to go away and leave you holding the bag,&#8221; parent Michael Boguszewski told board members. &#8220;We&#8217;ll help in any way we can to reach that long-term sustainability.
